WritePad Sync Lite for Windows and Mac OS

Starting with version 1.7 WritePad includes a file server which allows users to transfer WritePad data files between their desktop computers and iPhones using the Internet browser on your PC. WritePad Sync Lite application helps you to find WritePad server(s) on the local network and launch the default Internet browser to access WritePad files.

After you install and start the WritePad Sync Lite application, the folder icon will appear in the Dock bar. When one or more mobile devices running WritePad file server are detected (mobile devices running must be connected to the local WiFi network), the red badge indicating the number of available WritePad file servers will appear in the top right corner of the icon. To view WritePad files in your default Internet browser, right click on the WritePad Sync Lite icon and select the WritePad Files on iPhone menu item. The application will start the default Internet browser and show the page containing the list of WritePad files and the Upload File form.

Please note that WritePad Sync Lite neither allows full data synchronization between a computer and iPhone nor does it allow viewing individual items (Affairs, Notes, and Events) in the Internet browser. If you use WritePad Notes, Affairs, or Events, you can export data as CSV file on your iPhone and then use WritePad Sync Lite to download it on your computer for backup or data exchange purposes. If you use the WritePad Demo you can download/upload individual text files. In addition you also have access to user-specific data files used for handwriting recognition, such as user dictionary (.dct), autocorrector word list (.cwl), and statistical data (.lrn).

Downloading/uploading WritePad files
  1. Ensure that your iPhone or iPod Touch is connected to the local WiFi network. If not, use the Settings application to connect to WiFi.

  2. Start WritePad on your iPhone (WritePad Demo, WritePad Notes, WritePad Events, WritePad Affairs, and WritePad Pro 1.7 or later are supported).
  3. Open the WritePad Options window, locate the File Sharing section and turn the Share My Files switch ON (if the device is not properly connected to the local network, this switch is disabled).

  4. Since the device will disconnect from the WiFi when it hibernates, it is recommended that you also turn the Keep Awake switch ON.
  5. Depending on your network connection and configuration, it may take up to a minute to recognize the service. Usually it takes less than 10 seconds to recognize a new WritePad Sync Service on the network.
  6. Control+click (or right-click) on the WritePad Sync Lite icon in the Dock bar or choose the File menu, then select the WritePad Files on iPhone item from the popup menu.
  7. If the service is functioning properly, the default Internet browser will be launched displaying a list of WritePad files and the Upload File form.
  8. To download any file, simply click on it.
  9. To upload a file, select the desired file on your computer and click the Upload button.
Note: Only files recognized by WritePad can be uploaded: CSV, DCT, CWL, LRN, TXT (WritePad Demo only), SQL (WritePad Affairs, Events and Notes only). If the data file with the same name already exists it will be replaced with the uploaded file.
Note: If the text file (WritePad Demo only) with the same name already exists, a new generic name starting with export_ prefix will be assigned to the uploaded file.
  10. If the device is not connected to the external power source, make sure not leave the WritePad application running on your iPhone if the Stay Awake switch is ON for a long time as the device will not hibernate and your battery will be drained quickly.
