Professional-Quality Dictionary Provides Handwriting Recognition, Spell Checking For Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC, Tablet PC Products; Prescription Drugs, Abbreviations Included
LOS ALTOS, CA – April 29, 2003 – PhatWare Corporation, a leading provider of software products and professional services for mobile and desktop computers, announced today the immediate availability of a 130,000-word, professional strength English language medical dictionary for its Calligrapher and PenOffice handwriting recognition products. The dictionary—believed to be a first for handwriting recognition products - is used to increase handwriting recognition quality and for spell checking, and includes a complete listing of medical terms, prescription drug names, abbreviations, and much more.
"Roughly 30% of CalliGrapher and PenOffice users are doctors," said Stan Miasnikov, president of PhatWare Corporation. "We've introduced this innovative dictionary as a significant productivity tool for our customers in the medical profession."
CalliGrapher adds natural handwriting recognition capability to any Windows Powered Pocket PC or Handheld PC Professional; while PenOffice, recently optimized for Microsoft Windows XP and Office XP, brings the power of CalliGrapher to Microsoft Tablet PCs or any other pen-based desktop or portable PC running Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Both products in their standard English version recognize cursive, print, or mixed handwriting styles; a number of additional language versions are available including Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian and European) and Spanish, with additional languages on the way.
"Windows Powered devices are the best way to connect to your most essential information," said Mary Rose Becker, group manager for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "The medical industry is finding huge value in Windows Powered devices for just that reason - they enable people to connect to the type of data needed to efficiently service their patients while away from their desks. PhatWare is capitalizing on that trend and continuing to meet the need of this industry with the release of it's medical dictionary."
Easy User Access
PhatWare's medical dictionary for CalliGrapher and PenOffice is easily accessible from any active, text-based user application. Once installed, a user can switch between standard and medical dictionaries by clicking on the icon in the application's toolbar, or by using a special gesture. The dictionary works independently of any common English dictionary installed on the user's device, in order to provide better handwriting recognition results.
